In January 1950, Mao Zedong issued a solemn order to “embark on Tibet, liberate the Tibetan people, expel imperialist forces from Tibet, and consolidate national defense.” The soldiers of the 18th Army who were preparing to settle in southern Sichuan immediately packed their bags and turned to Tibet, completing a major change in their thinking in the shortest time.

In early July of that year, all the 18th Army troops of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army led by Zhang Guohua arrived in Ganzi and continued to advance into Tibet through the Ganzi area. In the spring of 1951, the 18th Army advanced troops successfully ended the Battle of Chamdo. In order to support the westward troops for a long time, the Southwest Military Region decided to expand an airport in Ganzi that can adapt to the needs of entry in the shortest time. 70 years later, when the interview team of the “National Unity PartyBabaylan 1990 cloth draw“>Address of the Sichuan Station Interview Activity of the “National Unity PartyCinema 1950 witch cloth drawZaima 1950 witch cloth draw to reporters over and over again when the 18th Army entered the history of the hiding in Sichuan, that passionate periodIt seems to be before our eyes again.

“The soldiers of the 18th Army used the most primitive tools and hands to open roads and build airports on the western Sichuan Plateau at an altitude of four or five thousand meters. The famous Sichuan-Tibet Highway was built on the way to Tibet. On average, one or two soldiers died every kilometer!” Lazhen, a Tibetan girl born in 1993, sighed, “It’s not easy for them. Some people were in their teenage years of entering Tibet. The climate was even worse than it is now.”

The cave group of the 18th Army is the most distinctive example. In order to support the westward troops for a long time and establish a stable air transport base, in April 1951, the soldiers of the 18th Army fought for their youth and passion to build Ganzi Airport. Ganzi County is more than 3,500 above sea level and has harsh climatic conditions. In order not to disturb the people, the soldiers dug up rows of caves as residences on the hillside.

The climate characteristics of the Ganzi Plateau are obvious. People who have just arrived here generally have altitude sickness such as nosebleeds, headaches, dizziness, and arrhythmia. But the soldiers of the 18th Army were not afraid of hardship or death, and resolutely overcame numerous sufferings. Without water, electricity, and sufficient materials, they fought for seven consecutive months. On November 20, 1951, the first airport on the plateau was successfully built.

“On November 22, 1951, a day in history was recorded in the history of Cinema 1950 witch cloth draw. On the clear sky, there was a roar, and tens of thousands of commanders and fighters and Tibetan migrant workers stood near the airport runway, looking at them. This is also a historical story of Tibetan compatriots and soldiers and civilians dating each other. “When the Red Army passed through Ganzi’s Long March, more than 100 Tibetan compatriots took the initiative to serve as guides and translators to assist the Red Army in successfully passing Sichuan. Some wounded and sick people in the Red Army stayed in Ganzi, living with local Tibetan compatriots and living together. “Babaylan 1990 cloth draw.” Deputy Organization Department of Ganzi Prefecture Committee href=”https://funnybookish.com/”>Komiks 1960 witch cloth draw Minister Luo Zhigang told everyone some of the historical clips.

“Ganzi’s red culture and red genes are very heavy, and the ‘Long March spirit’ and the ‘Two Road spirit’ are gathered here.” Luo Zhigang said that these two spirits have nourished the people of Ganzi for generations, and will always follow the Party and be grateful to the Party. Lazhen Babaylan 1990 cloth draw told reporters that her young grandfather had followed the troops of the 18th Army to Tibet. Therefore, the children of Ganzi know how to be grateful and have a strong patriotic feeling.

The current status of the ruins of the cave group of the 18th Army. Photo by Hu Jun, a Chinese Net Journal, when we look back on this history, we feel mixed feelings, especially when we feel the history in our hearts. No one will not admire their glory and greatness. Lazhen graduated from university in 2014 and returned to her hometown of Ganzi from the provincial capital Chengdu. She walked here with the same emotion. Over the years, she has come into contact with many witnesses of the 18th Army and their descendants. She tells it over and over again and baptizes again and again.

Lazhen toldWhen she saw the descendants of the 18th Army coming here, she felt the deepest feeling that she had done something very meaningful. “My friends and classmates came here and burst into tears. Unexpectedly, we young people in the new era have such a deep patriotic sentiment. If we hadn’t come back to do this, the cave might have slowly disappeared.”

“This (protection) work may take 20 years, 30 years, 100 years, 200 years, but this is really a great thing.” Lazhen felt extremely solemn and sacred about inheriting and protecting the spirit and relics of the 18th Army. She said that because these things need us to protect and promote them, we never feel hard, and we don’t complain, but I am very happy.

“The roofs above (the cave) are gone and naturally weathered and collapsed. For the local people, this place is very sacred. They dare not destroy or cultivate land, and they protect this place for generations.” Su Xia, deputy director of the Ganzi County Culture and Tourism Bureau, looked at the ruins of this cave group and looked extremely solemn! His grandfather was an old Red Army and an old party member. He participated in the Long March and later stayed in Ganzi due to injury and became a part of the construction of Ganzi.

Su Xia often listened to her grandfather telling the stories of the Red Army when she was a child, and the story of the Communist Party of China serving the people. When she grew up, Su Xia also honored to join the Communist Party of China and became an outstanding Communist Party member. After graduating from university, she returned to her hometown, took root at the grassroots level, and continued to contribute her youth and passion to the construction of her hometown.

In recent years, the development of my hometown has been getting better and better. In January 2019, the ruins of the 18th Army Cave Group were included in the ninth batch of provincial cultural relics protection units in Sichuan Province. Protective development is currently underway and will be built into a cultural brand of the 18th Army historical site in the future. Su Jia hopes to promote the red cultural tourism resources in his hometown so that more people can come to Ganzi and understand Ganzi..

When talking about the feelings of returning to his hometown, Lazhen said emotionally that I should come back to tell the great deeds that happened in his hometown. My hometown has cultivated me, and what I learned should be given back to my hometown, just like the ruins of the 18th Army Cave Group and other red cultures in Ganzi. These require our generation of young people to inherit and promote.

70 years ago, Ganzi, the hometown of Lazhen and Su Jia, left behind the glorious history and glorious years of the 18th Army. Standing at the starting point of the new era, the spiritual traditions left by the Chinese Communists have not faded, the beautiful vision of the young generation in Ganzi to build their hometown, the original intention of taking root at the grassroots and serving the people has not changed, and it still continues the glorious mission and lofty ideals of the Chinese Communists.

The development and changes in Ganzi over the past 70 years are a typical representative of Sichuan’s new changes, achievements and new actions related to the Tibetan region. The red spirit here will be long-standing, the story of national unity here will be renewed for a long time, and the development and changes here will be ever-changing. Looking forward, even more longing.
